Exciting developments ahead! We’re in the process of building a new website!!!
Our Mission: We strive to support artists, digital creators, and individuals with a passion for vulnerability. We welcome all and wish to support an environment of respect, authenticity, and mutual understanding.
What We Do: We Are Artistic is a creative collective, welcoming individuals with a passion for expressing their authentic selves through media, thought, and presentation. We make it easy for artists to connect with one another, whether through our active community or at the in‑person events we host across the DMV. We also offer virtual programming, ensuring creativity can shine from anywhere.
Edie Young (she/her) is an artist and queer and disabled community organizer whose earliest memories of art trace back to elementary school drama class with Ms. Maria, where she fell in love with performance and storytelling. Ms. Maria made theater fun and collaborative, encouraging students to write their own plays and take part in behind-the-scenes work. In middle school, Edie’s focus shifted to visual art, and her passion for creativity deepened alongside a growing love for helping others.
As she explored more artistic spaces, Edie noticed how many were competitive, inaccessible, or emotionally unsafe. She believed every artist’s work deserved support, not just the most polished or popular, and that creative spaces should be healing, inclusive, and community-driven. She also noticed many disabled people weren't given as many places to shine and mostly just made fun of.
In 2019, at just 12 years old, Edie started a small Facebook group with help from her parents’ friends and family. Her goal was simple: to create a space where artists, artistic people, and art appreciators could connect, share, and uplift one another. The group quickly grew, and Edie expanded it into a website, volunteer program, and Instagram page. At first, it was just Edie and a few close supporters running things, but as she began posting regularly, people from across the country joined in, eager to volunteer and contribute. Now there are 200+ volunteers across the globe.
As the community grew, Edie discovered the power of art to uplift others emotionally. She launched card-making initiatives for kids in hospitals and other causes, blending creativity with compassion. By 2023, the group was hosting events across the DMV and officially became a fiscally sponsored 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
